Frequency bands allocated to the French amateurs

The French radio amateurs are allowed to transmit only on certain ranges of frequencies, called amateurs or hams bands.

These bands slighty differ from one country to another, but generally follow the UIT recommendations on the matter.

Following tables indicate the bands allocated in Metropolitan France. These frequencies were published in the Official Journal of March 13, 1998 page 3788.

Let us repeat that citizen's band or 27 MHz is not an amateur band, and is not used by the French radio hams.

24,000 GHz 24,250 GHz 1,2 cm
47,000 GHz 47,200 GHz 6 mm
75,500 GHz 81,000 GHz 3,75 mm
119,980 GHz 120,000 GHz 2,5 mm
142,000 GHz 149,000 GHz 2 mm
241,000 GHz 250,000 GHz 1,2 mm

The propagation of a wave is very dependent on its frequency, the amateurs bands thus make it possible to benefit from all the possibilities since they are regularly distributed on the whole spectrum, from the 1,8 MHz which is close to the frequencies of the broadcasting stations to the 241 000 MHz where the propagation is rather similar to that of the light.

The types of modulation usable on these frequencies are also regulated, but practically all the possibilities are allowed to us.
